purple pelican designs: customer support

How do I access my email over the web (i.e. webmail)?

There are two ways of getting to webmail:

Direct access (not secure)

  1. Go to webmail.wowiwa.net. (Note: no preceding www.)
  2. You will be asked for username and password. Your username is your full email address and your password is the password for that email address (NB: not the password for the hosting control panel).
  3. You will now have a choice of three different email services: Horde, SquirrelMail and Round Cube. If you are familiar with one and want to keep that as your default client then click '[ Enable AutoLoad ]' beneath the correct logo. Otherwise select one and see if you're comfortable with it. See our preferences below.

Via your hosting control panel (secure)

  1. Log into your hosting control panel (www.wowiwa.net:2083) with your account username and password (or click Home, if you're already logged in).
  2. In the 'Mail' section, click 'Email Accounts'.
  3. On this page you should see a table of all the email accounts you have set up (below the 'new email address form'). In the 'Access Webmail' column, there's a webmail icon in each row. Click this for the account you would like to view.
  4. You will be asked for a password. Enter the password for that email address (NB: not the password for the hosting control panel).

Which flavour of webmail?

Horde – This is our preferred webmail tool; it has the most functionality and a clean design which makes it easy to use. This looks and acts like an everyday web client such as Microsoft Outlook or Hotmail. The only downside is that many of the commands (Reply, Delete, etc.) are in quite small text and you have to get used to where they're located on the page.

SquirrelMail – We would recommend you avoid using this webmail tool unless you are already familiar with it. It is very basic compared with the other two and therefore has less functionality. For example it is very time consuming deleting emails due to no 'check all' option.

RoundCube – This is our recommended alternative to Horde. This is prettier than Horde and feels more interactive. The only downside is that the icons & buttons don't have labels on them, so at first you have to guess and then get used to what's what, though this doesn't take long.

I can't see my emails in webmail. Where are they?!!

Webmail is a way of accessing emails while they are on the server, before you download them. If you use an email program, such as Microsoft Outlook, it will download emails and delete them from the server. Once they're gone, webmail can't see them anymore.

Note: Only your webmail inbox will be downloaded. If you are sending a message from webmail, we recommend a cc (or bcc) to yourself so you are guaranteed a copy. Also avoid creating and using folders on webmail if you also use an email program, such as Microsoft Outlook, because only emails in the Inbox will be downloaded.

Still having trouble?

You should have been given the link to access your cPanel account via email. The email should also contain the login information. If you can't find the details, or are still having trouble then please contact us.
